Schools set up foodbanks to support their local communities

During these unprecedented times, schools across the country are pulling together to support their communities.

Shaw Education Trust staff have been working tirelessly to help families and young people, opening foodbanks across numerous locations in Bury, Staffordshire and the Midlands.

Jo Morgan, CEO of the Trust, said: “Collaboration is more important than ever now and investment in our young people must extend to ensuring they thrive whilst away from school.”

The Trust has set up 7 foodbanks across their school locations, enabling pupils and families to access essential items from Unsworth Academy, Seabridge Primary, Madeley School, Kidsgrove Primary, St Andrew’s Academy, Saxon Hill Academy and Great Barr Academy.

The dedication of school staff has been exceptional, with employees undertaking everything from sourcing non-perishable foods, developing donation partnerships, through to creating food packages and delivering these directly to homes.

Mrs Morgan continued: “The power of our community working together is remarkable; we are delighted to be adding value at such an important time.”

Corporate donations to the foodbanks would be greatly appreciated. For more information about how to donate items, please contact the school directly.
