Mel Newbury started her career in a Manchester Senior High School teaching the sciences and maths. Loving the ‘great outdoors’ she later moved to Staffordshire to run an environmental Field Centre where a wide range of visiting schools would learn about the local ecology. This is where she realised her passion for teaching children with special educational needs. This led her to take up the position of Head of Maths at a Staffordshire Special School. Now with 27 years SEND experience she is Head of School at Saxon Hill Academy for children with physical disabilities and complex medical needs.
Mel’s raison d’etre is to inspire teachers to inspire children to learn, so they can make a great contribution and take their place in society. She is committed to providing an excellent curriculum designed to challenge children to be leaders in their own lives and fully prepared for the world beyond school.
