Julie Wood - Walton Hall Academy

Julie graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University in 2000 gaining a BA (Hons) in Secondary Education with QTS. Although a trained PE and Business Education teacher, Julie's first teaching post was in Special Education at Walton Hall Academy. Here she quickly fell in love with the school and the amazing young people she had the pleasure to work with and this has resulted in a career of over 20 years at Walton Hall. Over these years she has taken on many leadership roles including PE and humanities subject lead, Key Stage 3 leader, Post 16 leader and senior leaderships roles of Assistant and Vice Principal before becoming the Academy Principal in September 2020. 
Julie is passionate about providing an educational experience for young people with special educational needs and disabilities that will enable them to fulfil their potential and to be the best they can possibly be. She is driven to develop students' skills, knowledge and understanding that will fully prepare them for fulfilling adult lives. 
To enable an outstanding learning experience, Julie aims to support staff to be self-reflective and research-based practitioners that keep abreast of changes in policy and practice. Julie fully supports a coaching and mentoring leadership style that enables development of a high skilled staff team who are confident, passionate, and driven to bring the best outcomes for the students within Walton Hall Academy and the Shaw Education Trust.
