A level results day saw celebration at Great Barr Academy as the number of students to secure university places rises.
The sixth form, which is part of Shaw Education Trust, revealed that 90% of its students are going on to study a variety of degrees at university, with a significant number at Russell Group Universities.
Academy principal, Ingrid Abrahams, said: “These results demonstrate Great Barr’s ability to offer and support a wide range of subjects and, ultimately, broaden career prospects for our students.”
Staff were delighted with the rise in academic performance, with the number of pupils with 3 AAB grades including a facilitating subject being nearly double the target. The academy also received excellent BTEC results with attainment being above the national average for vocational subjects.
There were numerous individual success stories too, with Simran Hayer leading the high achievers after gaining three A*s in English literacy, psychology and history.
Speaking of the impressive results, Mrs Abrahams commented: “We are ecstatic with this year’s results and are proud of what all of our students have individually achieved.”
